Scholarships and Bursaries

Accessibility to a Jesuit education is important to us.

We celebrate the diversity of interests and abilities in all of our students, and we understand that every child is different. Within their unique being lies their capacity to be discovered, challenged and enhanced. Our pursuit of excellence in all humanity, caring for the individual and the whole person in order to form men of faith who engage critically and work for justice in the world underpins our perspective and actions. This is anchored in our guiding principles.

Enrolment Support at Xavier College

In alignment with our mission as a Jesuit school to provide holistic education and foster human excellence, Xavier offers a range of assistance for families wishing to educate their sons at the College. These are categorised as:

  • Scholarships
  • Bursaries
  • General Excellence Scholarships
  • Kostka Exhibitions
  • Cura Personalis Support

The purpose and qualifications for each are provided below:

Scholarships

The College Foundation, in conjunction with generous donors, provides funds for a number of named and general scholarships for enrolments for gifted students in the areas of:

In most cases, these awards provide part but not total financial support. The level of fee support ranges from 50 to 100%.

All scholarships are advertised and applications from external and internal students are welcome.
Scholarships will be offered for Years 7-11, for 2025.

Bursaries

The College Foundation, in conjunction with generous donors, provides funds for a number of named and general bursaries. A bursary provides financial assistance to a family who would otherwise not be in a position to afford the enrolment of their child at the College. Accordingly, financial information is required to support the integrity of the application. This is handled with strict confidentiality and discretion to respect the particular circumstances and privacy of the applicant.

In most cases, these awards provide part but not total financial support. The level of fee support ranges from 25 to 100%.

Families external to the College are welcome to apply for a bursary at any time, although typically they are awarded in one period at the beginning of a school year for a commencement the following academic year.

General Excellence Scholarships

The College provides financial assistance for a number of enrolment opportunities each year for students who display excellence across various endeavours applicable to College life, with the underpinning requirement of both faith and personal character. Such endeavour might be academic, service-oriented, or be associated with the Colleg's diverse cocurricular program that includes performing and creative arts and sport.

These awards offer part but not total financial support to students based on application to the College. The level of fee support ranges from 40 to 70%.

Some financial information may be required to determine the level of tuition fee support, as will supporting documentation to validate the level of excellence in the applicant's field/s of endeavour.

The performance and conduct of all Excellence Award recipients are reviewed annually or as required. It is expected that every recipient makes a significant contribution to the life of the College in their nominated field/s of award, and that their effort in academic studies, as well as their overall conduct, participation and character, are of a high standard at all times.

Kostka Exhibitions

Funding set aside from the proceeds from the former Kostka Hall Campus of Xavier College will enable the College to provide part-tuition fee support to families who may wish to attend Xavier but whose personal or financial circumstance would not enable them to access a Xavier education. The Exhibitions are offered to students who would not be eligible for a bursary. Accordingly, financial information is required to support the integrity of the application. This is handled with strict confidentiality and discretion to respect the particular circumstances and privacy of the applicant.

The level of tuition fee support ranges from 40 to 60%

Applicants for a Kostka Exhibition must display a strong commitment to faith and service, academic growth, human (personal) excellence and demonstrate a willingness to contribute to the full life of the College.

The Exhibitions are also designed to provide access to metropolitan communities of significance to Xavier. Noting the relevance of Kostka Hall to these opportunities, the historical catchment area of Kostka Hall will be an area of priority.

Cura Personalis Support

Unforeseen occurrences, circumstances and tragedies can befall families during the course of their connection within the Xavier Family. The College will consider these on their merits and will do all that it can to support its families during these difficult times. This support might include financial assistance in the payment of school fees (such as reduction or deferment).

Personal Standard Required

The performance and conduct of all College Enrolment Support students – that is, all Scholarship, Bursary, Kostka Exhibition, Excellence Award and Cura Personalis Support recipients – are reviewed annually or as required.

It is expected that every recipient makes a worthy contribution to the life of the College, and that their effort in academic studies, as well as their overall conduct, participation and character, is of a high standard at all times. For students who have received a Scholarship or Excellence Award, it is also expected that the recipient is entirely involved in their nominated field of award, that their contribution is significant and that their performance is of a commensurate standard.

Information for 2025 Scholarships will be updated on this site on Thursday 16 November.
